The Right to Education Forum (RTE Forum) is a coalition of around 10,000 organisations working in 20 states across India. The Forum comprise of national peoples’ movements, prominent educationists, social workers, social activists.

Welcome to Right to Education Forum

Right to Education Forum is a collective national initiative of the civil society to work for a just, inclusive and egalitarian society in consonance with the core values enshrined in the Indian constitution and several other international charters and Legal instruments on Human Rights. It was formed after the enactment of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 in 2010 for closely tracking and supporting the implementation of the RTE Act. Its structure is federal and it brings together actors at the national, state and district levels that share a common commitment to the implementation of the right to education.

Who we are

Envisions realizing the goal of universal education for all through a strong public system of education, funded by the state. The Forum considers the RTE Act, despite its limitations, a progressive step which provides opportunities to millions of children in India.

What we do

The Forum has been working towards building a people’s movement to achieve the goal of equitable and quality education for all children through the realization of the Right to Education Act, 2009- in its true letter and spirit. The Forum views education as a crucial investment.

Our Key Demands

The present education system is widening the gap between the rich and the poor through glaring discrimination and thus
practices a new form of apartheid – an apartheid based on caste, class and economic status

Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education

Equitable and quality education for all and improved learning levels of children.

Complete implementation of the RTE Act and inclusion of pre-primary and higher secondary education in the Act

Increase in budgetary allocation to at least 6% of the GDP

Ensure a safe and secure environment for education focusing on Girls
